Army Tank-Automotive and Armament Command (TACOM) Electrician in Anniston, Alabama

Summary About the Position: Incumbent is an Anniston Army Depot employee assigned in a temporary duty (TDY) travel status to support functions associated with, but not limited to, the overhaul, rebuild, modification, and testing of a variety of electrical systems and related mechanical components of a wide range of types and sizes of railroad diesel-electric locomotives, locomotive cranes, and diesel-electric power generating sets. Responsibilities Serve as senior-level locomotive electrician engaged in depot-level, direct support, and general support maintenance. Perform the full range of work involved in the repair, rebuild, calibration, modification and test of the electrical portion of high-voltage diesel-electric power generators, including the electronic components of automatic control systems. Conduct load and road tests to insure that specified electrical and mechanical test parameters are attained. Read circuit diagrams covering the electrical and electronic systems to diagnose problems and determine corrective action. Utilize basic hand tools to disassemble, replace parts, and repair control panels. Anticipate and responds quickly to problems as they are manifest through sophisticated warning and alarm systems. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Electrician without more than normal supervision. Overhaul, rebuild, repair, modification and test of electrical systems, and related mechanical components, of a wide range of types and sizes of railroad diesel-electric locomotives and locomotive cranes and diesel-electric power generating sets. Reconnect wiring after assemblies have been reinstalled in the equipment and provide technical troubleshooting and diagnoses of malfunctions involving electrical systems during all phases of testing. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Do The Work Of The position Without More Than Normal Supervision Ability to Use and Maintain Hand Tools (Electrical Work) Ability to Use Electrical Drawings Knowledge of Electrical Equipment Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) Theory and Instruments (Electrical, Electronic) Used in Shop and Trade Practices Troubleshooting (Electrical) Physical Effort: Lifts, carries, and pulls parts of units, test equipment, and tools weighing up to 45 pounds. Lifting devices are available for heavier items. Kneels, stoops, crouches, and stands for long periods of time. Climbs ladders or reaches above head to work on components and assemblies. Required driving and/or riding in semi tractor-trailers or panel vans for extended periods of time. Working Conditions: Works inside shops, generator enclosures, control units, and frequently outside. Subject to fumes, extremes of weather conditions, and occasionally is in close proximity to high-voltage lines and equipment. Subject to serious injury or death by contact with high-voltage lines and to less serious cuts and bruises when handling tools and materials. Frequently exposed to dirt and grease, which soils hands and clothing. Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year trial/probationary period may be required. Direct Deposit of Pay is required.
