Summary
Come join us as a member of the Unit for Laboratory Animal Medicine Veterinary Technician Team, reporting to the Manager of Veterinary Technician Services.
The Veterinary Technician Supervisor will be responsible for supporting and assisting the Veterinary Technician Manager. Under the guidance of the Veterinary Technician Manager, the supervisor will be responsible for staff performance management for a group of veterinary technician associates, which includes providing timely feedback, coaching/counseling, and conducting quarterly reviews as well as annual performance review. The ideal candidate will be excited to take on a leadership role and help motivate and support a large team, as well as be detail-oriented, organized, have strong verbal and written communication skills, and want to be part of a diverse workforce driven to achieving the highest animal welfare standards in the pursuit of impactful science to benefit both human and animal health. Responsibilities*
Full Time/40 hrs. /Day Shift/Some Weekends and Holidays
Promote and support a positive working environment for team and unit
Support and assist Veterinary Technician Manager
Responsible for daily work schedules for all Veterinary Technicians; scheduling coverage for absences or changes to daily schedules
When necessary, provide coverage of daily tasks for Veterinary Technician team
Training new employees, establish training practices and assist Veterinary Technician Leads with training of team
Responsible for Quality Assurance inspections of the Veterinary Technician team
Assist in the review and revision of standard operating procedures for veterinary care
Provide facility orientations to internal and external customers
Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications*
Associate or Bachelor?s degree and at least 4 years of paid animal experience.
Must have an active Veterinary Technical license in the United States, have passed the VTNE exam, and be licensed in Michigan within six months of hire.
Certification of American Association of Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) - Laboratory Animal Technician (LAT)
Certification of AALAS Laboratory Animal Technologist (LATG) within 12 months of being eligible.
Proficient in the use and understanding of Word, Excel, and Outlook

Experience in a supervisory or leadership role; demonstrated leadership and experience working with complex teams
Skills that demonstrate the ability to communicate in a professional, positive, and helpful manner with co-workers, management and research community
Skills that demonstrate the ability to coordinate a project and/or perform in a liaison role between multiple groups
Ability to manage change and understand multiple interpretations of procedures
Demonstrated proficiency in implementing change

Ability to be flexible with daily schedule
Willing to work with peers, research staff, principal investigators, and clinical veterinarians on decision making
Demonstrate organizational skills
Proactive problem solving with workable solutions, and teamwork
Work Schedule
Provide work coverage for 40 hours on Monday - Friday. Expectation for covering weekend and holiday duties is a shared responsibility amongst team members.
