Lab Technician I
Description NSF is looking for a motivated candidate who enjoys working hands-on and on their feet to be in the Exposures or Preparations Lab as a Technician I. This position is perfect for someone looking to get lab experience and have the potential to learn and grow within a certification company. This role is to perform laboratory procedures in an accurate and timely manner and continue to expand skill base while under supervision. Depending on the circumstance, potential for flexible schedules and/or part-time if someone is in school obtaining their degree and would like this experience.
PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES: Under supervision, perform basic laboratory tasks (i.e. making batch water, distribute and track samples, laboratory housekeeping/maintenance, and prepare or pre-treat samples).Perform all applicable corporate and laboratory quality control procedures and policies. Perform exposure/prep methods for varied product types. Prepare all records (electronic data, folders and forms) in a timely, thorough and neat manner. Use the laboratory information systems and sample tracking procedures, as applicable. Using MSDS's work with various chemicals, solvents, acids, and bases. Participate in rotation of work schedules. Maintain a clean work area. Perform other duties as requested. Adhere to the safety and health policies and procedures. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Frequent Light physical effort required for (ability to lift and manipulate test samples or move 5 to 10lbs. from one area to another). Periodic Medium and heavy physical effort (ability to lift and manipulate test samples or move up to 20 lbs. alone, or more with group or mechanical assistance). Standing for long periods of time is necessary periodically. Working with various organic solvents, chemical analytes, reagents, acids, and bases is necessary. Safety glasses must be worn at all times in lab areas. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed in a laboratory environment. Fast paced, hands on work environment. Smoke-free work environment. May be exposed to allergens if working with Dietary supplement products. Qualifications REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma Good written and verbal communication skills. Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc. Excellent attention to detail. Ability to organize work and maintain work flow with minimal direction. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Associate's degree in a physical science or equivalent laboratory experience. Good organization skills and the ability to follow written and verbal directions. Familiarity with quality procedures. Familiarity with general laboratory equipment and procedures.
