The Erb Institute is the business-sustainability partnership between the Ross School of Business and the School for Environment and Sustainability at the University of Michigan. This role is hybrid with on-site expectations in Ann Arbor, MI 3 days per week. Requires occasional travel (1-2x/month) in Michigan, the US. International travel (1-2x/year) may also be required. Purpose:

The Strategic Partnerships and Career Development Manager identifies, evaluates, and manages new business and partnership opportunities for the Erb Institute. You will build and execute Erb's Alumni engagement strategy, and lead the development of our career development program for Erb graduate and undergraduate students. These efforts include establishing and maintaining relationships with potential partners, donors, and alumni on behalf of the Erb Institute. You will report to the Managing Director.

Responsibilities*

Partnership Development: (40%)

  • Build and maintain relationships with industry groups, conference organizers, and business sustainability organizations to enhance brand identity, promote institute thought leadership, and support the career development of our students and alumni.

  • Research and share business sustainability trends with leadership, staff, and partners to inform programming and content.

  • Represent the institute at domestic and international business sustainability events.

  • Lead Erb Institute business engagement working groups to connect institute research with business sustainability practices.

  • Collaborate on the Erb Institute's advancement strategy, including fundraising efforts and donor relations.

  • Partner with UM, Ross, and SEAS development teams to advance development efforts and strengthen donor relationships.

  • Support leadership in developing proposals for executive business sustainability learning programs, and work with Ross Executive Education and SEAS to create business sustainability training.

Alumni Strategy: (30%)

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive alumni engagement strategy for Erb undergraduate and graduate alumni.

  • Build relationships with alumni, fostering collaboration in business, research, and teaching, and creating a sense of community.

  • Organize multiple annual regional alumni events and lead bi-annual alumni reunions with professional development, networking, and social activities.

  • Create and oversee alumni/student mentorship programs in partnership with the student affairs team.

  • Collaborate with student affairs team to maintain an up-to-date alumni database, ensuring accurate contact and employment information.

Career Development: (30%)

  • Develop and implement a career strategy to help Erb students secure competitive job placements, in coordination with UM, SEAS, and Ross career services.

  • Build and maintain partnerships with campus career units and external organizations.

  • Stay current on market trends and act as the in-house expert on business sustainability workforce dynamics and opportunities.

  • Create and lead career development programs for alumni.

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's degree and 4+ years of related work experience or equivalent combination of education/work experience.

  • Experience cultivating relationships with partners across different industries and sectors.

  • Experience organizing, facilitating, and leading meetings and events.

  • Demonstrated project management, organizational, and administrative experience.

  • Expertise in strategic management and leading initiatives that align with business operations.

Additional Information

The posting range for this position is $66,900-$86,350. This posting range reflects multiple factors involved in determining compensation, such as skills, experience, training, certifications, and other organizational needs. At Ross, it is not common for new hires to be offered a salary at the upper end of the range . Compensation decisions are based on the details of each situation.
