At Thomson Reuters, our CoCounsel AI platform is revolutionizing legal workflows through cutting-edge AI technology. As Principal Engineer for CoCounsel Skills, you'll provide technical leadership and architectural vision for next-generation AI-powered legal solutions, working closely with the Sr. Director of AI Applications to develop and ship innovative features that challenge the status quo.
About the Role In this opportunity as Principal Engineer, CoCounsel Skills, you will:
Provide technical leadership in defining and implementing software development strategies for critically important AI projects, ensuring alignment with business objectives
Design and drive the long-term technical vision for CoCounsel Skills, focusing on seamlessly integrating LLMs and generative AI technologies into user-friendly legal applications
Lead complex technical initiatives that utilize the latest AI technologies to automate and assist legal workflows with professional-grade accuracy and reliability
Partner with cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into actionable technical solutions while balancing innovation and operational excellence
Mentor and guide engineering teams, helping to strengthen the organization's engineering culture through leadership, coaching, and knowledge sharing
Drive innovation in AI-native product experiences, identifying opportunities where technology can create transformational shifts in legal workflows
About You You're a fit for the role of Principal Engineer, CoCounsel Skills if your background includes:
5+ years of hands-on software engineering experience with a proven track record of developing scalable, web-based solutions
Substantial experience building production-grade backend systems in Python
Familiarity with AI technologies, including GenAI concepts like prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and fine-tuning
Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and microservices architectures
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to influence across organizational boundaries
Strong communication skills to articulate complex technical solutions both verbally and visually
Ability to navigate ambiguity, make data-driven decisions, and deliver results in a fast-paced environment
Demonstrated ability to mentor others and contribute to engineering culture
