Summary

TheExercise and Health Behavior in Oncology Lab (https://ehbol.kines.umich.edu/) (Principal Investigator: Dr. Angela Fong, PhD) in theSchool of Kinesiology (https://www.kines.umich.edu) is seeking a full-time Clinical Research Coordinator to join her team. The Clinical Research Coordinator will be responsible for the coordination and conduct of behavioral and psychosocial research with historically marginalized women diagnosed with cancer. The Clinical Research Coordinator's responsibilities involve interface with study participants, administrative oversight for research projects including, however, not limited to Institutional Review Board submissions, and monitoring the progress of the studies. They are also responsible for ensuring research protocol and regulatory compliance and producing study reports. The successful candidate will be reliable, conscientious, organized, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities*

  • Research coordination and administration (75%)

  • Identify research participants (e.g., Emerse, DataDirect, and MiChart/Epic), determine eligibility, consent eligible participants, and schedule assessments.

  • Prepare study materials including study surveys (e.g., REDCap and Qualtrics) and patient-facing materials for data collection.

  • Develop and maintain project databases and participant tracking spreadsheets using Excel, OnCore, and Velos.

  • Administer data collection instruments online, in person, or via phone.

  • Regulatory management of research (e.g., IRB applications, eResearch), monitor study progress, and producing regular study reports including NIH progress reports.

  • Assist with data analysis and management as needed.

  • Ensures research protocol and regulatory compliance.

  • General research administration and related activities (25%)

  • Grant, abstract, and manuscript preparation support such as conducting literature reviews, managing references, and manuscript submission coordination.

  • Coordinates interactions with collaborating research institutions, investigators, vendors, and support staff.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications*

  • A bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., kinesiology, public health, epidemiology, behavioral science, exercise or health science, health education and health promotion, medicine, social psychology) with 2 to 3 years of related research coordination experience is required.

  • Must be able to demonstrate proven organizational, coordination and problem-solving skills, with high attention to detail.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and take initiative, yet seek supervision, as appropriate.

  • Formal training in database creation and management or research methods and statistics.

  • Ability to remain stationary at a computer for up to 4 hours to collect, process, or review data.

Desired Qualifications*

  • A master's degree in a health-related field with at least 1 year of related research coordination experience is preferred.

  • Prior experience with cancer research preferred or prior research coordination responsibilities in academic medical settings.

  • Prior experience working with minority or historically marginalized individuals and communities.

  • Experience with data management, qualitative research methods, and statistical software (e.g., SPSS).

  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with multidisciplinary medical professionals, cancer patients and individuals at risk for cancer.

  • Familiarity with or ability to quickly learn University of Michigan research-related organizational structure, policies, and procedures.

Additional Information

The position is available immediately and is term-limited, funded for 18 months; the initial appointment may be extended depending on performance and availability of research funds. The salary range is $42,000 - $59,300, commensurate with education and experience, and eligibility to participate in the school's 2025 merit program. An offer may be extended outside the general salary range shared in this posting based on equity, experience, knowledge, and skills for this role. This is an onsite position, with the potential to transition to hybrid/remote work after initial familiarization with lab procedures, space, and equipment.
