The Accountant is responsible for the maintenance of all aspects of APUs general ledger, including, timeliness and accuracy of data entry, account reconciliation and assisting budget officers administration with budget officer financial reports, and grant accounting and reporting.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES Maintains and reconciles general ledger accounts, including: o reviewing account balances for accuracy; o monthly bank statements; o preparing and posting monthly departmental charge backs, pre-paid expenses, and amortizations; o preparing and posting journal entries to correct balances; o creating new GL accounts and inactivate or delete obsolete accounts while maintaining the chart of accounts. Records and reconciles conferencing revenues. Assists Controller with general ledger monthly and yearly closes, including preparation of the required reconciliations and workpapers for the annual audit. Assists Controller with cash flow and cash requirement assessments. Reviews personnel action forms for budget availability and coding prior to hire and/or posting. Reconciles the CAMS student information system to the general ledger. Perform grant accounting, including reviewing grant documents, prepare and record journal entries, review and reconcile grant budgets to actuals. Assists project directors with regulations, account coding, budget development and compliance and other grant related issues using resources including the Federal Grant Handbook and OMB circulars A-21, A110, and A-133. Request payments from grant providers. Assists other department personnel in understanding financial reports for their departments and grants. Prepares entries and financial reports for all beneficial interests.

KNOWLEDGE and SKILLS Knowledge of accounting theory and practice including account coding, receivables, payables, payroll, revenue, expense and budget analysis. Knowledge of OMB Circulars A-21, A-110, and A-133. Skill in utilizing accounting software programs and electronic web access. Skill in utilizing Microsoft Office products, specifically Word, Excel, and Outlook Skill in both verbal and written communication. Skill in working with minimum supervision. Skill in working well under pressure and meeting scheduled timelines. Skill in working effectively and cooperatively with all levels of management and staff, as well as outside business associates. Skill in being detail oriented.

MINIMUM EDUCATION QUALIFICATION Associates degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. Progressively responsible professional work-related experience, education, or training may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for college education.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATION Non-Supervisory: Four (4) years accounting experience.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATION Grant management experience preferred.
