Excelsior Orthopaedics Group Athletic Trainer in Amherst, New York

Job Summary

Role provides clinical support and direction for the athletic population and post-surgical patients within the rehabilitation clinic. Athletic trainers are responsible for providing clinical linkage between physical therapy and rehabilitation. This role performs a wide variety of duties involving the evaluation, treatment, care, and rehabilitation of patients with athletic, sports-related, or orthopedic injuries/conditions. Additionally, this role has opportunity to support designated high schools in an outreach capacity as well as represent Excelsior Orthopaedics at external events as needed.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Act as a clinical support specialist for the rehabilitation staff assisting in patient care and maintaining patient flow to maximize efficiency.

  • Provide professional direction and education to all athletes and patients in the areas of rest, recovery, nutrition, and hydration while adhering to standard precautions for patient care.

  • Teach and monitor athletes on proper and safe lifting/conditioning techniques.

  • Educate patients regarding injuries, reconditioning exercises, and/or injury recovery as appropriately directed by the physician.

  • Participate in health fairs, educational seminars, and expos, and other outreach events as needed.

  • Apply knowledge of the general principles of preventative physical care for athletes, first aid treatment and referral, and post-injury rehabilitation.

  • Provide high school athletic coverage as needed.

  • Communicate technical information to non-technical personnel.

  • Assist with maintenance and cleaning of all equipment.

  • Assist with the delivery of the athletic profile and maintenance records.

  • Adhere to all established guidelines.

  • Carry out all other duties as requested by supervisor.

Qualifications

Requirements and Qualification

  • BS in Athletic Training required.

  • NYS license required.

  • CPR/AED certification preferred.

  • Experience in educational or clinical setting preferred but not required.

  • Training and relocation assistance available.

    Physical Demands

  • Requires considerable physical activity including heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling of objects up to 50 pounds.

  • Involves standing, walking, and kneeling.

  • Work environment involves some exposure to hazards/physical risk, which requires adhering to basic safety precautions.
