UPMC Altoona is hiring a future graduate or Registered Nurse to help support our Emergency Department! Our Registered Nurses

In our Emergency Department , we offer comprehensive care for minor and major injuries, illnesses, and serious traumas — 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Our Emergency Department is a 51-bed facility (4 trauma bays included) as we are a Level 2 trauma center. Our specially trained experts provide emergency treatments and access to a wide variety of care for patients experiencing life-threatening: trauma, heart attack, and stroke along with utilizing the UPMC Stroke Telemedicine Program.

UPMC Altoona is excited to offer a Night Program for RNs:

· For working night shift, you may receive an additional $2/hour on top of the off-shift differential ($2) for actual hours worked within the night program guidelines.

· Must have completed orientation period and have at least 6 months of registered nurse experience to participate.

· GNs will have the option to move into the night program once these qualifications are met.

Here’s how we support our nurses:

Newly competitive wages:

· $29.50 (BSN)

· $28.00 (non-BSN)

· Shift differential: $2.00 (+$2.00 if qualified for night program)

· Title and salary will be determined based upon education and nursing experience.

Generous Sign-On Bonus of up to $15,000.

· $15,000 sign-on bonus available for nurses with 1 or more years of experience.

· $10,000 sign-on bonus available for nurses with less than 1 year of experience

· Candidates hired into a sign-on bonus eligible role will be asked to make a two-year work commitment.

UPMC’s Monthly Loan Repayment program: If you are eligible for the $10,000 sign-on bonus, then you may be eligible to receive an additional $15,000 student loan repayment bonus, which is paid out across 3 years.

Responsibilities:

· Provide care to patients utilizing the nursing process, leadership for the nursing team and contribute to the education of a variety of members of the staff and students.

· Adheres to universal precautions.

· Completes annual competency validation activities.

· Complies with established occupational exposure policies.

· Demonstrates professionalism in providing patient care.

· Engages in collaborative discussions with medical staff and professionals to develop patient care plans.

· Identifies and addresses potential problems.

· Takes action to resolve environmental factors affecting patient care.

· Maintains proficiency in point-of-care testing.

· Serves as a consultant to other healthcare team members.

· Utilizes computer systems appropriately.

· Conducts patient assessments and documents needs.

· Evaluates patient outcomes and responses to care.

· Implements nursing protocols and standards.

· Coordinates health teaching for patients and families.

· Involves patients and families in care planning.

· Collaborates with community agencies and other healthcare professionals.

Experience Required:

  • None (future grads & experienced nurses are encouraged to apply!)

Education and Formal Training Required:

  • Must satisfactorily complete the Nursing Department's orientation program and probationary period.

  • Must complete NIHSS education prior to end of orientation period, if required.

  • ACLS preferred, BLS required. PALS for specific units.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • *Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state. Hires and current employees working on an out-of-state NLC license who later change their residency to the state where the facility is also located will have 60 days upon changing their residency to apply for licensure within that state.

  • CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.

  • Must obtain one of the eight certifications within two years of hire/transfer:

  • Acute/Critical Care RN (CCRN) OR Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses OR Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN) OR Certified Flight Nurse OR Certified Neuroscience Registered Nurse OR Certified Progressive Care Nurse OR Emergency Nursing Pediatric OR Trauma Certified Registered Nurse

· Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)

· Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

· National Institute of Health Stroke Scale Certification

· Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)

· Registered Nurse (RN)

· Act 33 with renewal

· Act 34 with renewal

· Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
