Insight Global Junior Software Release Manager in Alpharetta, Georgia

Job Description

The Junior Software Release Manager plays a key role in the software development and delivery process by overseeing the planning, coordination, and execution of software releases. The Junior Software Release Manager uses expertise in Agile methodologies and strong communication skills to coordinate activities of multiple, cross-functional teams to ensure that software is released on time, with high quality, and complies with applicable company and industry standards.

Responsibilities:

1.Release Planning:

Collaborate with product owners, software development and quality assurance teams, DevOps, information security, and IT operations teams to plan and schedule software releases.

Develop release timelines and milestones.

Communicate release plans to stakeholders.

Develop and maintain a release plan that outlines the scope, schedule, and objectives of software releases utilizing tools such as Jira Software and Confluence.

2.Coordination:

Coordinate and facilitate release meetings, ensuring all teams are aligned on release goals and timelines.

Work closely with project managers, product owners, and other stakeholders to prioritize release activities.

Implement and enforce change control processes to ensure that only approved changes are included in each release.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including development, quality assurance, DevOps, IT operations, and client-facing teams to foster a culture of collaboration and shared responsibility for successful software releases.

Coordinate efforts of third-party vendors when they have deliverables in the release (e.g. translations)

Track and report key performance indicators (KPIs) related to the release process, such as release velocity and defect trends.

Monitor production releases for issues, coordinate hotfixes or patches when necessary, and ensure smooth transitions to maintenance and support phases.

3.Risk Management:

Identify potential risks and issues that may impact release schedules or software quality and work proactively to mitigate them.

Develop contingency plans to address unexpected obstacles during the release process.

Provide timely updates to project teams and stakeholders.

4.Communication:

Communicate release schedules, progress, and status updates to stakeholders, including executives, and relevant teams.

Provide regular updates on release progress, risks, issues, and resolutions.

Resolve conflicts and disagreements among team members or stakeholders related to release planning, scope, or priorities.

5.Documentation

Maintain accurate and up-to-date project documentation.

Provide input to and help maintain company SDLC Policy and Procedures documentation.

6.Compliance:

Ensure teams follow industry and company standards and bring awareness to exceptions.

Participate in annual SSAE and SOC 2 audits providing evidence as required.

7.Continuous Improvement:

Continuously evaluate and improve the release process, incorporating industry best practices and lessons learned from previous releases to improve efficiency and reduce risks.

Implement best practices for release management and stay informed about industry trends.

The target salary for this position is between $80-100K depending on skillset, years of experience and education level.

Skills and Requirements

  • 2-5 years of experience using Jira or one of the Atlassian tools such as Confluence, Jira Service Management, GIT, or Polaris

  • Familiarity with software development (SDLC)

-Experience working with cross functional teams such as QA, DevOps, and Product Teams for Release Management

  • Attention to detail and strong communication skills

  • 1-3 years' experience in release project management, but I would consider internship experience if it was directly related to software development or release management

  • Strong experience with Agile Methodologies - Experience as a developer is a plus

  • Familiarity with SOC Audits

  • Experience working with external vendors null
