Overview

The Portfolio Director of Grid and Pipeline Innovation will lead a team of Product Managers responsible for planning and executing the modernization strategy for PPL’s electric and gas systems. The primary directive for the portfolio is to identify opportunities to leverage digital capabilities and platforms that improve safety and reliability while reducing cost, and preparing our gas and electric software portfolio to achieve the grid of the future.

Portfolio leader provides thought leadership, vision, and support for portfolio teams. Responsible for overall management and performance of the portfolio. Ensures product teams are aligned with business objectives and company strategy and that portfolio investments are focused on highest value opportunities for our business.

Responsibilities

  • Build, develop and support high performing portfolio product teams.

  • Lead the discovery of strategic opportunities at the portfolio level.

  • Engage with stakeholders to understand our most pressing business needs and opportunities, align stakeholders around highest value initiatives for funding and governance approval.

  • Partners with Technology, Design, and Analytics Portfolio leaders to identify high value portfolio and cross-portfolio digital initiatives for potential funding and development.

  • Provide overall portfolio governance and oversight. Regularly review portfolio performance with stakeholders to assess results and adjust priorities, strategy, and investments.

  • Identify key strategic outcomes and success measures for the portfolio.

  • Own end-to-end user experiences and journeys within portfolio and enable cross portfolio capabilities and journeys.

  • Initiates, reviews, and prioritizes all new requests for enterprise capabilities that need investment consideration and governance approval.

  • Ensure all products, projects, and initiatives are aligned to business objectives and company strategy.

  • Tracks and optimizes investments in products and digital capabilities throughout product lifecycle (Explore, Exploit, Maintain, and Retire), to maximize business and portfolio value.

  • Identify emerging market and technology needs

  • Manage cross portfolio dependencies and conflicts

  • Serves as internal and external champion for the product model and promotes a culture of collaboration, co-creation and team success.

  • Builds and leverages deep business domain expertise to identify opportunities to improve or expand digital capabilities aligned with our strategy.

  • Serves as subject matter expert in relevant policy and regulatory discussions, working groups, or proceedings.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, technology management or related degree OR 15 years of relevant product experience.

  • 7-10+ years of product management experience, or equivalent.

  • 5 or more years of direct supervisory experience.

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Ability to balance short term needs with long-term strategy.

  • Ability to challenge the status quo.

  • Strong business and financial acumen to facilitate strategic planning, business reviews and opportunity assessments.

  • Ability to collaborate cross-functionally and influence through data, insights, and storytelling.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in digital product development

  • Experience in gas or electric operations
