Job Description

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education

• Bachelor’s Degree from accredited college or university in Electrical Engineering or related field

• In lieu of a Bachelor’s Degree, 4 years of experience maintaining extensive electrical systems may be considered (in addition to the required minimum experience listed below

Formal electrical trade school required.

Experience

• Minimum of (5) years of experience in directing and maintaining extensive electrical systems, preferably within a rapid transit railway systems.

• Minimum 3 years supervisory experience required

Certification/Licensure

• Possession of a valid vehicle operator’s license issued from state of residence.

Preferred

• Formal electrical trade school

Mission Essential Designation

• In accordance with the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority’s Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP) this job has been identified as critical to mission essential functions. Incumbents in this role may be required to report to or continue to work in the event of authorized office closings or service suspensions due to severe weather, natural disaster, fire, operational emergencies or related events.

SUMMARY

This position is responsible for effectively and efficiently managing, planning, scheduling, coordinating the maintenance, removal and replacement of electrical equipment, and keeping all of the Authorities low voltage electrical distribution systems in a state of good repair and working order.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Assists in the planning, development and implementation of preventive maintenance, rehabilitation, and replacement of all low voltage electrical systems and ensure that all electrical systems are maintained to the highest operating standards and in accordance with applicable codes and maintenance standards.

• Assists Authority’s engineers with technical evaluations of new equipment and techniques to insure that the Authority’s electrical systems result in the maximum opportunity for cost effectiveness and efficient operation.

• Ensures that effective and adequate contingency plans are provided in the event of an emergency and that properly trained personnel and appropriate equipment is available to restore low voltage electrical systems to normal operation.

• Establishes and maintains responsive and cooperative relationships with internal and external customers to continue to build effective relationships throughout the organization.

• Directs timely investigations into equipment failures and department incidents, determines causes and initiates appropriate for correction.

• Presents oral and written reports to Assistant General Superintendent on areas of assigned responsibility as may be appropriate.

• Manages, supervises and evaluates assigned personnel to include applicant selections, disciplinary actions, and grievance resolutions.

• Plans, coordinates, and reviews work assigned to staff, special projects, etc. Performs periodic review of all work assigned and reports status to the Office of General Superintendent.

• Responsible for ensuring the safety of all employees assigned, thru the direction and implementations of monthly, weekly, and daily safety briefings. Performs periodic safety inspections of field locations, office and work environments to ensure compliance.

• Directs the investigations of all personal injuries and accidents, works with the Department of Safety to determine root cause and corrective or preventable action.

• Directs the implementation of strategic business plans and processes of the department, follows up with audits to ensure compliance.

• Prepares budgetary forecasts on departments electrical systems and equipment. Estimate staffing and material requirements, product efficiency and the need for improvement. Analyze labor and equipment report summaries.

Evaluation Criteria
