Paratransit Driver, Transit

Annual Salary Range: $28,904.77 - $34,672.72 Grade: 16 (Employee: 7% on your current salary, whichever is greater; or 10.5% on your current salary, whichever is greater, if position is 3 grades or higher than current position) Appointment to a position in the classified service shall be at the minimum of the corresponding pay range unless otherwise approved.

Examination is announced to establish an employment list to fill vacancies in the Transit department and future vacancies as they occur to operate a Paratransit vehicle on an established route in a safe, courteous manner according to a timed schedule. Picks up and discharges passengers. Performs pre-trip inspections, assists non-ambulatory and ambulatory passengers with boarding and using the paratransit bus safely, while ensuring wheelchairs are properly secured. Drives safely and obeys traffic regulations and laws. Operates a two-way radio and other electronic devices to communicate according to the transit department policies. Completes daily records and logs. Responsible for knowledge of City geography and street locations. Work is performed under the general supervision of a Transit Shift Supervisor or Assistant Transit Manager.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High School diploma or GED; previous experience in passenger transit operations, and/or transportation is preferred; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Must possess and maintain a Class D drivers license. Will be required to obtain a valid State of Louisiana Class D license at the time of appointment and maintain it throughout employment.

Work Schedule:

(M-F), 6 AM - 2 PM - may work weekends and holidays.

This examination may consist of a written test, a rating of training and experience, a performance test or any combination thereof deemed necessary to adequately screen and rank applicants. Examination notices will be sent out via email with a testing date, time, and location. Applicants must supply complete and accurate information concerning their previous training and experience including a detailed description of their work experience, the names and addresses of all previous employers and the dates of employment.
