The University at Albany (SUNY) seeks a Compliance Investigator who is an integral member of the team that addresses discrimination complaints, in particular complaints of sex-based discrimination and sexual harassment. Working with on- and off-campus colleagues, the Compliance Investigator executes prompt, effective, and remedial investigative responses to complaints of discrimination and harassment in accordance with the University's policies and procedures and in compliance with federal and state law.

The position reports to the University's Title IX Coordinator.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Intake of complaints of unlawful discrimination, including sexual violence and retaliation from various sources including but not limited to students, faculty, staff, or visitors to the University at Albany.

  • Assist the Title IX Coordinator in the assessment and development of appropriate resolution processes, supportive measures, and procedural protocol.

  • Provide consultation, training, and education to students, faculty, and/or staff on discriminatory practices, policies, procedures, and options for resolution of complaint matters.

  • Manage routine complaint-related correspondence and provide opportunities to meet with all parties to a complaint to review their rights, options for support, accommodations, and reporting.

  • Under the direction of the Title IX Coordinator, conduct prompt, impartial, equitable, and thorough administrative investigations in compliance with federal and state laws, executive orders, and University at Albany policies and procedures.

  • Investigation duties will include but are not limited to developing an investigation plan, interviewing complainants and respondents, identifying and interviewing witnesses, identifying and collecting relevant documentation, and appropriately documenting interviews and other investigation findings in a comprehensive and detailed report.

  • Collaborate with other institutional divisions to support institutional efforts to ensure compliance with federal and state laws and regulations including Title VI, VII, IX, the ADA, the Clery Act, NYS Ed Law 129-b, as well as university policies prohibiting discrimination, harassment, sexual violence and retaliation.

    Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualification

  • Bachelor's degree from an appropriately accredited institution.

  • Applicant must have demonstrated work experience that requires strong and analytical written and oral communication skills.

  • Applicant must have demonstrated experience working in a culturally diverse environment, preferably with young adults.

  • Applicant must have demonstrated experience working independently and in a self-organized manner working toward specific deadlines.

  • Applicants must have demonstrated experience in applying state and federal regulations.

  • Applicants must demonstrate an ability to develop inclusive and equitable relationships within our diverse campus community.

  • Applicants must demonstrate an ability to support diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and belonging relative to their role.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Applicant has demonstrated experience conducting investigation related to sexual violence and/or workplace discrimination.

  • Applicant has demonstrated experience using trauma-informed practices in investigation processes.

  • Applicant has demonstrated knowledge of Title IX regulations, Clery Act, VAWA and other relevant federal and state laws.

Professional Rank and Salary Range: Compliance Investigator, MP, $70,000-75,000
