Director, Licensing and Acquisitions

Abbott is seeking a highly talented Director or Licensing and Acquisitions (L&A) reporting to the Divisional Vice President of Licensing and Acquisitions supporting the Established Pharmaceuticals division. The Director of L&A will be responsible for seeking out, negotiating and closing new business opportunities for the organization.
Job Responsibilities:
Proactively research, identify and evaluate potential licensing and acquisition targets that are consistent with Abbott’s and division strategy and driving sustainable growth for the Company.
Lead the assessment and due diligence activities including: 1) managing the interactions with external parties, 2) overseeing the evaluation process and timeline and 3) developing timely recommendations and proposals for senior management consideration based on thorough and complete technical and commercial assessments
Develop effective deal structure, risk mitigation and negotiating strategies and ensure alignment with Company objectives and functional management.
Significantly contribute to / lead the negotiation process including agreement on key terms and, execution of legal agreements.
Effectively manage external stakeholders (e.g. BD executives, Legal, Clinical) and internal stakeholders (e.g, Commercial/ Clinical, R&D, Regulatory, Clinical, Finance, etc..), including preparing opportunity assessments and synthesis for executive-level audiences.
Deliver oral and written presentations to senior management to seek approval for new opportunities
Lead assessments key markets, companies, molecules and brands. Individual will be regarded as a subject matter expert for the specific line of business.
Desired Skills and Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree Required. Degree in Business, Science or relevant discipline. Master of Business Administration preferred.
8+ years of Pharma industry experience in business development, including managing the assessment of opportunities and negotiating and closing deals successfully.
Strong understanding of the product development, regulatory, and commercialization process for evaluation of target companies.
Project management/ leadership skills to drive projects to deliver timely results and follow through on commitments
Strong communication skills to effectively communicate business strategies and capabilities internally and externally, present individual and team recommendations clearly and concisely, and promote cross-functional communication.
Strong networking skills to reach out to a broad range of industry decision makers to keep abreast of emerging opportunities.
Established network in Pharma BD/ Banking
Demonstrated negotiation and influencing skills in a deal setting to creatively solve problems with partner companies and close deals that create a win-win relationship for both parties
Strong financial acumen and analytical skills to understand financial evaluations.
Language skills: Spanish or Portuguese language preferred.

The base pay for this position is $143,300.00 – $286,700.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
